What does a mother need to feel safe (in the city)
Madara Mazjāne (Latvia)Being a mother means not only caring for a child, but also overcoming practical, emotional, and social challenges every day – the invisible boundaries imposed by the urban environment, society’s attitudes, and one’s own feelings in these processes. We will discuss the experiences of mothers, where fear, discrimination, violence, and the desire to feel safe intersect whether at home, in public spaces, or in their own role as mothers. We will explore how these seemingly personal stories paint a broader picture of our opportunities, freedom, and place in the city as women and mothers, and we will seek support and encouragement in these stories.
The discussion is organised by the Ministry of Welfare (ESF+ project ‘Support Instruments to Reduce Domestic Violence’).
