Where is my peace?!
Līga Zepa, youth from the “Resiliences Avots” Community Centre (Latvia)This is the second year that the New Theatre Institute of Latvia has been holding an artists’ residency at the “Resiliences Avots” community centre as part of the “Magic Carpets” platform. Each year, a different artist works with young people to create a collaborative creative process based on co-creation, trust and the exchange of experiences.
This year, the residency was led by scenographer Līga Zepa. Over the course of several months, she worked with the youth to create a performative installation – a space in which inner worlds are revealed through self-created objects, texts, sounds and their very presence. At the heart of the work lies the question: where is my space of peace!? Not a quiet question, but a persistent demand for a place where one can feel safe, heard and accepted. The installation weaves together stories, feelings and thoughts about what brings joy, inspiration and a sense of security in everyday life, as well as what causes anxiety, fear, loneliness or uncertainty.
The installation invites visitors to pause, listen and connect. It offers an opportunity to learn about young people’s experiences and reflections on mental health, relationships, belonging and what it means to be a teenager today.

The project “Magic Carpets” art residencies
take place at the community
centre “Resiliences Avots”.
Young people take part in the residencies,
but experienced artists lead them.
This year, scenographer Līga Zepa led the residency.
It lasted for several months.
During the residency, young people tried to answer
the question: “Where is my space of peace?”
They wrote down:
- different stories,
- their thoughts,
- happy events,
- inspiring moments.
The young people thought a lot about what makes them feel:
- anxiety,
- fear,
- loneliness,
- uncertainty,
- safety.
After that, the young people used this information
to create:
- texts,
- objects,
- sounds.
They arranged everything in a room.
Now, this room shows the inner world of the young people.
It reflects their experiences and thoughts.
Young people think a lot about mental health
and relationships.
They want to feel like they belong
The room invites you to stop, listen to yourself,
and meet others.
