Blue Carousel

Lisa Colette Bysheim & Katrine Patry (Norway)

Venue in Valmiera (107km from Riga)!

Blue Carousel is a satire on seduction. A power play of expectations and associations, collapsing and climaxing into a series of transformations. Bysheim and Patry work with humour and repetition as a choreographic tool to comment on how the female body is viewed, objectified and categorised.

In a study of the seductive body, based on humour and bird mating dances, they indulge in all-consuming moments. Through a series of performative situations, they revel, twist and defy expectations through layers of fiction. They present soft and unforeseen confrontations, while insistent movements are woven together with transformative techno beats arranged by dj’s asiangirlsonly.

About artists

Lisa Colette Bysheim and Katrine Patry have collaborated since 2018 developing a distinctive choreographic partnership grounded in a shared commitment to exploring the complexities of power, seduction, and the human experience. At the core of their collaboration lies a fascination with the subtle mechanics of “soft power”—examining how power dynamics, objectification, and consumption of the female body are expressed and embodied through movement. Using repetition and the raw energy of spectacle, their performance captivates and provokes, inviting audiences to reconsider their assumptions and engage in deeper reflections on societal structures.
